How can we help?

FAQ

Ordering

How many reusable nappies do I need?

It's the most common question that we get asked. Here is our guide to how many reusable nappies you may need:

Using reusable nappies part-time: Based on using 2-3 reusable nappies per day on a part-time basis we recommend you have 8-10 nappies with washing every 1-2 days.

Using reusable nappies full-time: For full-time use we would recommend 18-25 nappies. This is based on using 6-8 reusable nappies per day and to allow 1-2 days between washing.

What size should I buy?

If you’re not quite sure which size is right for you, refer to our size guides.

What are the best reusable nappies?

Every baby is different, what works for one doesn't always work for the other. However, we're known, loved and recognised for our award-winning nappies!

Are cloth nappies really better?

Yes! Even when you include the cost of water and electricity for washing and drying, reusable nappies still work out cheaper than disposable nappies. Reusable modern cloth nappies are a much more cost effective and are an environmentally friendly option than disposable nappies and come at relatively little inconvenience. Refer to the DEFRA report here for more information.

Can I cancel my order?

While we wish could, once an order is placed, we are unable to alter or cancel it at this time.

We do however offer a 14 day returns policy. Please see our Shipping, Returns & Exchanges policy here.

Washing and Use

What do I do with the poo?

Once your baby starts weaning introducing a disposable liner is a game-changer. Simply place a biodegradable liner in your reusable nappy to catch solids. When it’s time for a change, you can lift the liner out and pop it straight into the bin. This makes clean-up quick, easy, and far less daunting.

For breastfed babies, poo is water-soluble, so reusable nappies can go straight into the wash without any fuss. It’s all part of the journey, and liners are here to make life simpler!

Do I need to do anything before first use?

Yes - prewashing new nappies is essential. This allows the materials to become absorbent and the nappy and inserts to be of any use! Different brands have different prewashing instructions due to different types of materials used. Between prewashes, no drying is required.

Follow the brand guide on how many prewashes are required. You can see our washing guide here.

How do I store used nappies?

Used nappies should be stored in either a nappy bucket or a dry hanging pail/bag. Of course, also kept well out of reach from little ones.

If you are out and about store your used wipes/nappies in a ‘wet bag’. Pop into your nappy bucket/pail when home ready for wash day.

How do I wash used nappies?

We recommend that you do not fill your machine more than ¾ full when dry as this will not allow enough room for the nappies to wash correctly.

  • Firstly, wash nappies on a cold rinse and spin setting that is around 30-40 minutes long. This will make the nappies nice and wet for the main wash. Do not use any detergent at this stage.

  • Then, on the longest cycle possible, wash nappies at either 40° or 60° degrees using Non-Bio detergent only. The amount of detergent to use is dictated by a couple of factors: How full your machine is, what the dosage is recommended by the detergent manufacturer (then divided by the load in the machine) and how hard the water in your area is. Nappies when washed should not smell of detergent. If they do then you have used too much which will cause a build up on the material fibres which can cause problems such as leaking, not enough will mean the nappies will still smell soiled and not be clean enough.

NEVER USE SOFTENERS OR BLEACHES.

How do I dry nappies and inserts?

The best way to dry nappies and inserts is on the washing line outside. This is also great for lifting stains as the sun is a natural bleacher.

NEVER dry directly on a radiator. Here are a few ways to dry nappies and inserts:

  • Dry outside on the washing line
  • Tumble dry on low
  • Hang on an airier
  • Dry in the airing cupboard

Always check the product label.

How often should I change cloth nappies?

We recommend you change your baby’s nappy around every 2-3 hours, earlier if soiled. You can boost your baby’s nappy for heavy wetters or night-time use.

This is a guide; you may find you achieve longer or shorter times in modern cloth nappies dependant on babies age and how much they wee/poop.

Do reusable nappies cause a problem with hip development?

Reusable nappies tend to have more padding, which might encourage a slight separation of the legs. Interestingly, this can mimic the "frog-like" position recommended for optimal hip health. In fact, orthopaedic specialists often recommend a similar positioning for babies diagnosed with developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), and devices used for treatment, like a Pavlik harness, hold the hips in a similar spread position.

Key Considerations

  1. Proper Fit: Fit the nappy snugly, without excessively forcing the legs into an unnatural position.
  2. Quality of Design: Our nappies are ergonomically designed and allow for a natural range of movement (winning best reusable nappy at the Mother & Baby awards 2023).
  3. Normal Activity: Allow babies time for free movement without nappies, such as during supervised tummy time or diaper-free play.

Reusable nappies do not inherently cause problems with hip development. On the contrary, their structure may promote a healthy hip position. For specific concerns, consulting a paediatrician or orthopaedic specialist is always advisable.
